Valle Martello Winery

Valle Martello is a true “family” operation, currently managed in its entirety by a group of cousins, located in the town of Villamagna which takes it meaning from the Latin for Villa (Farm) and Magna (Important).  Sitting high atop the vineyards is the main building of the estate which was the Archbishop’s Palace in the 16th Century.  Specializing in indigenous grapes with very little “human intervention”, Valle Martello is a small production estate focused only on using the natural ingredients to make the best possible wines of the region.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC

Viticultural Details

This 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine is the entry level wine to the red portfolio of Valle Martello.  Despite being one of the most common grapes found in Italy, this Montepulciano is no “common” wine.  There are 40 hectares of vineyards, situated between 2 hills, only 10 minutes from the Adriatic Sea which provides extremely rich soil.

Vinification and Maturation

The wine is harvested, weather permitting, typically in October.  In the winery, Valle Martello uses traditional winemaking techniques accompanied by modern technologies like a soft press, temperature controlled fermentation, delestage and long maceration.  Montepulciano is a “fresh” wine and is released within 6-12 months of the harvest after fermenting and resting solely in steel tanks.
