CASA EMMA WINERY

Casa Emma proves that everything at the heart of the Chianti region is tied by an often visible thread to millennia of history of which very little has been lost or mislaid over the centuries.  The Bucalossi family bought the estate from a Florentine noblewoman, Emma Bizzarri, whose name was used for the title of the estate, as a sign of respect for the land’s historical roots.  Chianti has always been a primarily agricultural region.  The cultivation of grape vines was probably introduced by the Etruscans, whose wise philosophy and undisputed agricultural skills lay the foundations for the livelihoods of future populations in the region.  The Casa Emma estate, with its splendid “Chianti Botanical Park” where Chianti roses bloom, and with its beautiful vineyards arranged like a Roman amphitheatre around a central core of human settlement, reflects an ancient life philosophy, where man can truly enjoy and use the natural world around him by integrating into and working with his environment whilst maintaining respectful observance of its needs.  The particular attention paid to the terroir allows Casa Emma to offer an authoritative range of Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and Soloìo (single grape Super-Tuscan Merlot).

At the heart of Chianti Classico territory, at an altitude of 420m above sea level, the vineyards of Casa Emma are a classic example of the charms of the Chianti countryside.  Casa Emma grows a number of “non-local” grape varieties, such as Merlot or other more traditional varieties such as Malvasia and Canaiolo, but the principal variety used is Sangiovese, one of the oldest Italian grape varieties forming the very foundation of traditional Chianti and Chianti Classico wines. The majority of Casa Emma’s vineyards are dedicated to production of the Sangiovese grape.
